The focal point of the upgrade was the installation of a robust 4-meter-high 358 Security Mesh, anchored securely in a concrete cill. This high-security fencing is designed to provide an effective barrier against unauthorised access, ensuring the safety and security of both staff and patients within the hospital premises.
In addition to the security fencing mesh, Nationwide Fencing Services Ltd. implemented 350 meters of bespoke double-sided close-boarded fencing, further fortifying the perimeter of Ashworth Hospital. This tailored fencing solution enhances privacy and security, maintaining a visually appealing boundary around the facility.
The project also included the construction of Multi-Use Games Area (MUGA) pitches, providing recreational spaces for patients and staff. This thoughtful addition not only contributes to the overall well-being of the hospital community but also adds a touch of versatility to the facility.

The access control systems were upgraded with the installation of both swing and sliding automated gates, equipped with advanced security features. Additionally, 20 manual swing gates were strategically placed across the premises to provide convenient access points while maintaining stringent security protocols.
Commenting on the successful completion of the project, Nationwide Fencing Services Ltd. MD, Paul Farrell stated, “We are thrilled to have played a key role in enhancing the security infrastructure at Ashworth Hospital. Our team worked diligently to provide a comprehensive solution that not only meets the highest security standards but also integrates seamlessly with the existing landscape.”
Ashworth Hospital, a well-respected institution specialising in mental health care, now boasts a fortified perimeter that aligns with the highest industry standards for safety and security.
The successful collaboration between Nationwide Fencing Services Ltd. and Ashworth Hospital marks a significant step forward in ensuring a secure environment for healthcare facilities, ultimately contributing to the well-being of patients and the peace of mind of the staff.
